About Us
Mr Desmond Chandler founded our company in 1935. He approached two of his old school friends with a proposition to assist him in his newly acquired venture of an Ironmonger's shop. He had recently purchased a property at 91/92 Westgate, Grantham, with help and encouragement from his father and the Midland Bank. One of the friends was Mr Joe Pell; Mr Chandler already employed the other, Mr Tom Caunt. Both were enthusiastic and prepared to join Mr Chandler in his venture, and so the Ironmonger's shop of D E Chandler opened. A major milestone in the company’s history occurred in 1959 when Mr Desmond Chandler retired, leaving the business with Mr Joe Pell and Mr Tom Caunt. The Company retained the name of D E Chandler, now well established in the area.
In 1983 the Company de-merged, with Mr Joe Pell and Mr Tom Caunt dividing the Company between the two now developing families. Mr Pell took control of the Farm Equipment business. With the emphasis on high tradition of value and service to the customer, the company also started dealing in motor vehicles.
The first site was Belton, becoming a Landrover dealer, with Subaru being added to the range at Horncastle in 1985. The success of Subaru, together with Isuzu, led to their introduction to Belton, replacing Landrover.
Who can say what the future holds, but rest assured Chandlers will be aiming to be at the forefront of the Vehicle market in and around Lincolnshire. Chandlers remains a family business striving to achieve our customer’s satisfaction, and to exceed their expectation.
